The retail industry in the US is comprised of approximately 1 million outlets with combined annual revenue of over $4 trillion. While large companies tend to dominate some retail sectors; such as mass merchandisers and grocery stores, other sectors like automotive dealerships and convenience stores are considered to be “fragmented”. A majority of specialty retailers are single-store operatives.
